Abstract

NO2- in mineral water has been drunk by animal or human so NO2- entranced in blood vessel of body caused methemoglobinemia or blue baby syndrome which blocked Hb to bind up oxygen (O2) and made (body becomes deep blue because of less oxygen). One of ways in reducing concentration of NO2- in water is by using adsorbent of cellulose component that contained in coconut shell which was activated by HCl 6 N. This research aimed to determine the initial concentration of NO2-, to determine the concentration of NO2- after submerging Active Carbon Coconut Shell 9%b/v that was activated by HCl 6 N with Period of Contact Variation 90; 120; 150; 180; and 210 minutes which calculate the percentage of concentrate reduction of NO2-. The significance of this research is as information for readers, writer, and society that submersion with Active Carbon Coconut Shellthat was activated by HCl 6 N could reduce the concentration of NO2- in water. This research is conducted on November 2016 until February 2017 in Environmental Laboratory of Environmental Agency (BLH) Semarang city that was located in TapakTugurejo Street, Semarang. In this research, the researcher found out the finding, analysis of NO2-that conducted at the optimum of wave length 540 nm with 10 minutes of stable time. The results of the study with carbon active the percentage the decline in NO2- levels in water using carbon active than the kneecap coconut 9 % b/v who diaktivasi with HCl 6 N successive effective in time contact 90 minutes of 91,12 %, While in time contact 120 - 210 minutes the decline in NO2- levels is relatively very small.
