Abstract

Jamu beras kencur is a tradisional medicine decived from plant, which are made of kencur, rice, and sugar. White sugar as a sweetener used and often also mix artificial sugar. Analysis artificial sweeteners do with the test if positive qualitative and quantitative test will be done. Qualitative test of artificial sweeteners do using thin layer chromatography method, while the quantitative test is done by using the extraction method of titration. The aim of research to find out the sweetener saccharin and set levels herbal sweetener that is added to the carrying medicinal beras kencur in Rejowinangun Market, Magelang. The study was a descriptive study. The research object is six herbs beras kencur purchased from 6 merchants herbalist kencur rice, respectively - each trader purchased for Rp.5000, - per pack. The results showed that the type of artificial sweetener found in herbal beras kencur" qualitative test that is Rf sample A: 0.65 a difference Rf sampels and raw : 0.15, sample B: 0.48 a difference Rf sampels and raw : 0.02, sample C : 0.64 a difference Rf sampels and raw : 0.14 tested positive for saccharin and saccharin followed by quantitative assay obtained the samples A 801 , 76 mg / kg, sample B 777.95 mg / kg, sample C 811,32mg / kg. This suggests that high levels of saccharin exceeded the maximum use of food additives that have been defined by the Minister of Health of RI No.033 of 2012 which set limits on the maximum use concentration drink liquid that is 300 mg / kg.
