Abstract

Number of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing. The 85% of diabetes is diabetes type 2. The higher the blood glucose, the more hemoglobin molecules that bind to glucose, and will persist in the blood for blood cell age, which is about 3 month. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship of blood glucose with HbA1c in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Blood glucose and HbA1c levels well controlled reduces the risk of complications of diabetes. This type of research is analytic research with cross sectional design. Samples were taken using a systematic sampling of 30 people from the entire population of patients with age >30 years with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus who will perform fasting glucose, glucose 2 hours PP, and HbA1c. These patients did not have a decrease in red blood cells. The results showed that most respondents in this study were men 53.3% by age 40 years to 92 years. Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test to show p>0,05 the normal distribution. Pearson correlation test showed that between fasting glucose with HbA1c values of significance 0.001<0.05 and between glucose 2 hours PP with HbA1c values of significance 0.011<0.05. The correlation coefficient between fasting glucose with HbA1c showed r=0,559, which means a strong correlation, and correlation coefficients between glucose 2 hour PP with HbA1c showed r=0,459, which means the correlation is quite, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between HbA1c blood glucose in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2. Key words: blood glucose, HbA1c, diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2.
