Abstract

Background: MSDs (Musculosceletal Disorders) are a complaint in the form of pain that occurs in muscles, nerves and tendons that are often experienced by workers who focus on strength and endurance in doing their work. One of the informal sector industries that can be affected by MSDs is furniture assembly component parts. Some factors that can cause complaints of MSDs are work period, age, smoking habits, nutritional status and work attitude. This study aims to determine the relationship between work period, age, smoking habits, BMI and work attitudes with complaints of MSDs. Method: This research is analytical using a cross sectional approach. The object of this research is furniture workers in component assembly. Samples in this study were 40 respondents. Indtrumen uses questionnaires, digital scales, microtoise, cameras and observation sheets using RULA and NBM. Results: Respondents with a working period of ≥4 years (60.0%), aged ≥30 years (62.5%), mild smoking habits (47.5%), abnormal BMI (67.5%), risk work attitude high (47.5%), and experienced complaints of MSDs (80.0%). Based on Chi-Square test, work period with MSDs complaints was obtained (p value = 0.015), age with MSDs complaints was obtained (p value = 0.015), smoking habits with MSDs complaints were obtained (p value = 0.0588), BMI with complaints MSDs obtained (p value = 0.486), and work attitudes with complaints of MSDs were obtained (p value = 0.181). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between years of service and age (p value = 0.015) with complaints of MSDs, and there was no relationship between smoking habits, BMI, and work attitudes with complaints of MSDs.
