Abstract

Anxiety isthe impactof hospitalization experienced by pre-school children. The impac tof this can disturb the development and the healingprocess of the children.Play therapy can be applied to decease children’s anxiety. Describing play therapy as a nursing careby drawing and colouring pictures in decreasing anxietylevel of a pre-school child being hospitalized.The subject is a five-year old child having anxiety. Data collection was conducted through interview, observation, physical examination, and study documentation. After applying the therapy,the anxiety level of the patient was decreasing– from the very unhappy level to be happy level. The application of play therapy by drawing and coloring pictures is effective to lower down the anxiety level of the patient. This therapy can also change the patient’s behavior to be more cooperative so as to speed up the his healing process. The application ofdrawing and colouring pictures as play therapy can decrease the child's anxiety level caused by hospitalization. Keywords: Hospitalization, anxiety, play therapy
