Abstract

In the elderly population, hypertension is defined as a systolic pressure of 160 mmHg and a diastolic pressure of 90 mmHg. Hypertension is often asymptomatic, but there are clinical signs that blood pressure measurements show an increase. Nursing action taken is the consumption of Ambonese bananas. This case study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of consumption of ambon bananas to decrease blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. This study design is a case study, where this design applies an evidence based nursing practice to cases with health problem hypertension in 2 patients. Conditions before and after the intervention are valued at the changes. Subjects on this application are elderly clients who have hypertension, aged 60 years and over with female gender. The results of the observation after the intervention was a decrease in blood pressure in both clients. It was concluded that the consumption of ambon bananas can reduce blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. Keywords: Hypertension, Elderly, Ambon Banana
