Abstract
Pre-analytical stage is a very important stage and needs to be properly considered. The pre-analytical stages include blood collection process, samples delivery, inclusion of examination type, samples preparation and selection of tools. Blood sampling process begins with congestion. Installation of tourniquet (congestion belt) for a long time may cause displacement of fluid from blood vessels into the tissue which results in hemoconsentration (viscosity of the blood vessels) that can raise cholesterol levels. The purpose of this study is to determine differences in cholesterol levels in direct congestion and 3 minutes delayed congestion. This study uses experimental research. The research was conducted at Clinical Pathology Laboratory, Muhammadiyah University of Semarang. Samples were taken using purposive sampling involving sixteen Fifth Semester Students of D III Health Analyst Study Program, Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Semarang in 2016 who got cholesterol levels examined by direct congestion and 3 minutes delayed congestion. Based on the research, cholesterol levels in 3 minutes delayed congestion were higher than direc congestion. Statistical test in Paired sample t test showed significant values of 0.000 ≤ 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that there are significant differences in cholesterol levels by using direct congestion and 3 minutes delayed congestion. Keywords : congestion length, cholesterol levels
