Abstract

Breast Milk (ASI) is the best food for babies because it contains nutrients required for optimal infant growth and development. Factors that effect breastfeeding one of which is the support of the family, especially the husband. Exclusive ASI coverage in Jatingaleh village, Semarang city on preliminary study is 55.84%. This research type is descriptive quantitative with purpose describes the husband support form both instrumental support, support informational, assessment support, as well as emotional support in breastfeeding in Jatingaleh Village of Semarang City. The population in this study was the mothers who have children aged 7-24 months amounted to 231 and the sample study amounted to 147 with proportional random sampling technique. The results showed in exclusive breastfeeding mothers who have good support for support instrumental is 33 respondents (36.3%), informational support 49 respondents (53.8%), support for assessment of 47 respondents (51.6%), and emotional support 56 respondents (61.5%). While in breastfeeding is not exclusive mother who gets good support on instrumental support is 13 respondents (23.2%), support informational 20 respondents (35.7%), support assessment of 20 respondents (35.7%), and emotional support of 20 respondents (35.7%). Higher support is obtained by the mother who provides exclusive breastfeeding with the highest support is emotional support, while the lowest support is instrumental support. Expected in the future husbands further increase their support to wives as it gives massage in mother's back after nursing mother, giving information to mother that baby 0-6 month should not be given food other than breast milk, give praise to mother during breastfeeding, and does not give any criticisms of maternal body shape changes during breastfeeding period.
