Abstract

Nurse attitude in preventing nosocomial infection is very significant as the effort to avoid the nosocomial infection in the hospital. This study aims at identifying the nurse characteristic and attitude in relation to nurse practice in preventing nosocomial infection inside the wards owned by RSI Kendal. This study employs quantitative design by using correlation descriptive study with cross sectional approach. There are at least 87 respondents that are taken from proportionate random sampling technique. Data are analyzed using chi square test and spearman rank as well. The result of the study shows that there is no correlation between age (p value = 0.503), sex (p value = 0.0001), and workshop (p value = 0.158) in implementing practice of nosocomial infection prevention. However, there are correlation between tenure (p value = 0.0001), education (p value = 0.0001) and workshop (p value = 0.001) in implementing practice of nosocomial infection prevention. In addition, there is correlation between nurse attitude and practice in preventing nosocomial infection (p value = 0,0001 where ρ < 0,05. It is expected that nurse would work hard to push the occurrence of nosocomial infection by considering about prevention standard or guideline of infection issued by hospital committee in RSI Kendal.
