Abstract

The surgery is a threat to the integrity of a person that will result in phsycal stress as well as psychic stress such as anxiety. Decreased anxiety is very important during the preoperative stage because psychic stress coupled with physical stress will affect the success of surgery. One of the non-pharmacologial treatments that nurses can do is to provide spiritual support, such as with prayer therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of prayer therapy on anxiety scale of preoperative patients with quasi-experimental research design one group pretest-posttest design. This research was conducted on February 2017 in the Central Surgery Room RSUD Dr. M. Ashari Pemalang with a sample size of 20 preoperative patients. The results showed that the mean of anxiety scale before prayer therapy was 5.15 or moderate anxiety level category, whereas the mean of anxiety scale after prayer therapy was 3.00 or in the mild anxiety level category. Statistical Test Results paired sample t test obtained ρ value of 0.000, so concluded there is influence of prayer therapy to the scale of anxiety preoperative patients. Recommendation from this research so that nurses can use prayer therapy as one of independent action in order to decrease anxiety of preoperative patients. Keywords : prayer therapy, anxiety, preoperative.
