Abstract

Background: Depression is a disturbing feeling of sadness and includes changes in sleep patterns and appetite, psychomotor, concentration, anhedonia, fatigue, despair, helplessness, and suicide. Depression in cancer patients who will undergo chemotherapy, a feeling of fatigue, decreased activity, and other symptoms of disturbed sleep and decreased appetite. Depression in patients who will undergo the most chemotherapy is at a depression level of at least 52 people and 21 mild depression. This study aims to describe the level of depression of cancer patients who will undergo chemotherapy. Method: with cross sectional research approach. In this study used a sample of 84 respondents cancer patients in Ma'wa RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. Result: statistic test result between characteristic with depression level using spearman corelation test got value p value = 0,02 <0,05 got result there is relation between gender with depresi level patient before undergoing chemotherapy. Conclusions: Most depression rates are in the minimal depression group and mild depression. In the relationship analysis found the relationship between gender with depression level of cancer patients who will undergo chemotherapy. Suggestion: health workers should provide education to patients who will undergo chemotherapy about the treatment effects that will be received by the physical and psychological cancer patients.
