This study was a true experimental research. The population was the students in the first grade students of SMAN 1 Pegandon. They were selected randomly as a sample. It can be seen from the mean of pretest in experimental class which gained 80.5, 86.8 for posttest, and < 0.05 for standard deviation. In addition, the students gave positive responses on this method in order to be implemented in learning English especially in the learning reading recount text. The researcher concluded that this method was effective to be used in learning reading. It is suggested that the English teachers of the tenth graders at Senior High School can apply the know-want-learn and talking stick as one of alternative teaching method to improve the students’ ability in reading. Keywords: Reading comprehension, teaching reading, KWL and talking stick.
